EarthKind Developing Electric Vehicle Program in Westchester County, NY

Ron presented on the Sustainable Westchester Clean Transportation Project, Electric Vehicles (EV), and EV Charging Stations to the Town of Ossining Board meeting on March 21st.

The Board voted to approve the Town’s $48,000 grant application for 3 new Electric Vehicle Charging Stations, plus another $5,000 grant that will cover the entire first year’s cost for a new leased EV. The Municipal Lease that EarthKind arranged for will result in spreading the dramatically discounted price of $22,000 for a new Nissan Leaf over 5 years – at zero interest!

Ron starts at 1.46.41, and his presentation is here.

The Battery Revolution just reached the next level

:

Three massive battery storage plants—built by Tesla, AES Corp., and Altagas Ltd.—are all officially going live in southern California at about the same time. Any one of these projects would have been the largest battery storage facility ever built. Combined, they amount to 15 percent of the battery storage installed planet-wide last year.

The time is almost here when intermittent renewable energy – from the sun or wind- will be stored in batteries and used to power Everything – all day & night long.

Read about it in Bloomberg:

Solar grows by 95% in 2016!

Solar energy installation capacity grew by 95% in 2016, with utility scale, residential and commercial solar all achieving record growth. Solar installations were 39% of all new 2016 electric capacity in the US, and wind energy 26%. Renewables were the majority of new capacity – blowing away new natural gas plants (29%).

While we have a long way to go, the exponential growth is creating a new paradigm of clean energy jobs – good for the economy, and great for the environment.  Read Here!

Saving the World = 100 Gigafactories

before-the-flood-lead-1580x530

Forbes recently did an article on the movie “Before the Flood”, where the UN “Messenger of Peace” – actor Leonardo DiCaprio – documents the realities of Climate Change, and provides insights into the solutions.

One of most fascinating quotes: To transition the world to 100% renewable energy will take 100 Gigafactories like the one that Tesla is building in Nevada.

While it’s no small feat to build a ~15 million square foot Gigafactory, and building 100 is beyond the reach of any one company – it is tremendously hopeful that there IS an achievable path to get humanity through the ever-deepening depths of climate disruption.

Earth Day 2016. What’s Your Carbon Footprint?

carbon-footprint2

Happy Earth Day!   This is a significant day every year but today in 2016 – 160 world leaders will join together at  the United Nations to officially sign the Paris Climate Agreement.   What is your carbon footprint?  Take one of these quizes  and find out!     Carbon Fund  or  Carbon Footprint.  You may be surprised to see what it actually is.  Then after you get finished gagging on what you found get out there and change it today!  Make sure you are doing the three “Rs”  – Reuse, Recycle, Renew  every where in your life!   Join a community solar group,  get solar for your home and/or business,  divest (retirement funds, stocks…) from fossil fuel companies, talk to your town boards about doing the same….

New York Solar Jobs Coalition holds Job Fair

ny solar jobsClean energy advocates gathered May 24th at Cornell’s Industrial and Labor Relations School in Buffalo to call for an expansion of solar power across the state. Holding a Solar Jobs Fair, members of the New York Solar Jobs Coalition along with business leaders and environmental advocates outlined the many opportunities for quality jobs that the solar industry can and will create.

With more than 300 solar power related businesses in New York State, this is a rapidly growing economy with a solid job creation potential.  Studies show that within 10 years, solar will be the most cost effective energy resource, which will lead to even more skilled, high paying and sustainable jobs.

“The goal of this coalition is to bring together and put together state policy that can have New York be in the leadership of that development instead of tagging along at the end,” said Ron Kamen, Chairman of EarthKind.

Ron Kamen works extensively with the government at local, State and Federal levels to ensure a favorable climate for solar development.  EarthKind is assisting the solar adoption goals of NYS by participating in Governor Cuomo’s NY-Sun Initiative which estimates a quadrupling of customer-sited photovoltaic capacity by 2013 and are supporting the master plan for accelerating energy-saving improvements in state facilities. That plan will call for substantial investment in cost-effective energy efficiency measures in state buildings over the next four years. State lawmakers have introduced legislation to implement a long-term solar plan and it has passed the energy committee in the Assembly.
