The Voice of Hope in the Renewable Field

There is more speculation, more rumors, more nervous people in the renewable energy field right now then ever before in our history. It is refreshing this week to hear of some positive forward thinking in the midst of all the angst. The U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy boldly announced it’s commitment for it’s SunShot Inititive to cut the cost of solar-generated electricity by 50% between 2020 and 2030. This is a new target continuing SunShot Initiative’s progress in helping the solar industry reach more than 90% of the initiative’s established 2020 goal in just five years. This includes brand new funding opps that will push the cost of solar even further down. Three cheers for the Department of Energy!

The Duck Curve

Are you familiar with  the “Duck Curve”?   Remember the “Bell Curve”  in collage statistics?  The Duck Curve is basically a concern over the availability of solar in the day time,  but going down as the sun goes down.  This concern has turned into something of a urban myth of late according to  Robbie Orvis, Michael O’Boyle, and Hallie Kennan of Energy Innovation.  The authors propose that by using common sense, smart rate design, and regional sharing/coordination we can minimize the impact of the Duck.  Read the article here.

Rhinebeck Considering Solar System Placed on Former Landfill

EarthKind Energy is based in Rhinebeck,  New York.  A beautiful little village  located in the equally beautiful Hudson Valley Region of New York State.   We here at EarthKind were thrilled to hear that the town was going to study the possibility of a solar system that would be placed on a old garbage dump! What a great use of pretty much unusable land!   We wish them good luck with the study!   Read the full story here!
